As we go into December, it is obvious we are not going to begin grooming for at least a few weeks according to the weather forecast. When we do, we will still need 18 inches of snow to cover rocks and stumps, so we can groom the trails.
We spent 37 hours working on the groomers this summer,
$883 on the 20 Cat
$1741 on the 08 Cat
drove 1,050 miles back and forth to the mountains to work on them
21 hours driving back and forth.
I went out and put snow poles on gates, and found out a tree had fallen on the fiber optic line that crosses Lookinglass Creek, the line and a pole are down. The line is hanging only 5 feet from our trail up to Morning Creek Snowpark. I have been working with the Forest Service to try to get the line repaired before snow really flies. Thanks to them for their cooperation on this. Also some of our 4X4 poles that mark across open areas are beginning to deteriorate, we have heard of one down on Andies Prairie, and some on Balloon Tree that are about to fall apart. There are some on McIntyre Loop as well. Hopefully the trails committee will be able to start addressing maintenance on those next summer. Some of our intersection signs are deteriorating too, some have bullet holes in them.
I have just picked up the second printing of the trail maps today. As you know the maps are a 4 year run on advertising, I print half the maps for the first 2 years and print the second half with minor changes to the map or advertising. I will start distributing those maps to the advertisers and club, chamber of commerce, FS as soon as I can.
