CLUB UPDATE by Bob Smith – TTF Vice President

Happy New Year Snowmobile Friends and Winter Sports Enthusiasts

We had a great turnout for our “Poker Run” and “Yearend Party” on Saturday the 29th. The parking lot was full of sleds and side x sides for the poker run Saturday morning. Our party Saturday evening was a packed house which included a potato bar and several tables full of prizes that were raffled off. Dewayne Harvill was the big $300 Poker Drawing prize winner. The snow was a bit heavy for the ride but there were lots of untouched meadows that keep getting better and better with each weather front that floats over our mountain delivering more snow. A big Thank you to our Corporate Sponsors Hollis Zschokke from State Farm Insurance in Kennewick for funding our Poker Run. Other sponsors were Goss Family Jewelers with stores in Hermiston and La Grande and Ride Now Power Sports Tri-Cities. Thank you to all the TTF Board and club members who helped put the evening together. It was a big success!

Weather report…

The conditions continue to improve as we head into the New Year. It takes 3 to 4 feet of snow to cover all the obstacles that lurk under the snow. The Milkshakes SNOTEL site records slightly over 5 feet as of Dec. 30th. We’re on our way to another great year of snowmobiling. We’re blessed to have 2 warming shelters as destinations points. The Chapman Bone Springs Shelter is like a city on most weekends with an elevation of nearly 6,000 feet. It’s a great spot to warm up after playing in all the meadows that are closeby.

Huge thanks to our groomers for making the trails smooth even while being down to one

GROOMER REPORT Dec. 28th –

We have been grooming steady since Wednesday, have been out to Ruckle, Andies Prairie, Gordon Creek, all Snow Parks, highway crossings, some of those twice this week, to the store, Bone Springs on Jubilee Rd, both sides, Elk Trail, Skyline, Powerline Trail, McIntyre loop, Coyote (3719) from Spout to the Store, Pole Trail twice. We are in pretty good shape approaching the weekend. I have had some people ask when I am going to get to the Chalet/McDougal area, I hope to do that tomorrow as we have been busy trying to keep snow parks and crossings and trails open with only 1 CAT, the 1998 Tucker is in La Grande until their new one arrives. There is just enough snow to get by Hill Camp I think.

Happy New Year!

McCall Winter Snowmobile & Side x Side Trip

The TTF is planning a getaway Snowmobile & Side x Side trip to McCall Idaho… plan to leave February 8th..sled the 9th and 10th…return on the 10th or 11th. Snowmobile rides in the backcountry and Side x Side ride to Burgdorf to soak out and swim in the hot springs. Burgdorf is awesome!!! McCall has several great restaurants for evening dining to laugh and share adventures of the day. Plan to bring plenty of gas as it is approximately a 62-mile round trip from McCall to Burgdorf. Should be a blast. Sleds and Side x Sides need an Idaho permit to ride on the trails.

FYI… (McCall Winter Carnival runs January 25th to Feb 3 and Presidents day is Monday February the 18th, 2019)

Please make plans to attend… several of us are doing VRBO rentals which is usually a great rental experience and much more spacious than a basic hotel room.

Get up and enjoy our beautiful mountain and have a great winter.
